Improving Productivity using IT

Improving productivity using IT is a mandatory unit from the ITQ qualification. It's about the process of doing a job from the planning stage through to reviewing and changing.

Plan - do - review - improve

This can be achieved in a couple of ways. It can be assessed, normally with a holistic approach while learners are carrying out their normal jobs. The other way is by a marked assignment. It is the marked assignment that some learners get the completely wrong idea. I have delivered courses using the BCS Awarding body and their marked assignment is excellent and learners got through it fine. On the other hand City and Guilds is slightly different and for some reason learners find it a bit confusing. I have seen some really excellent assignments from learners, however, I have seen a lot where learners simply answer the questions from the perspective of someone taking an exam rather than getting into the role of an employee as per the scenario.

I have delivered several sessions (I know other tutors who have done the same) and still learners get the complete wrong idea. I am puzzled how two award bodies can be so different. I would love to hear from other tutors that use City and Guilds and deliver this unit.
